I work in a public school as a support professional so my initial thought was that I’d follow a similar cycle as you, but actually I think summer stretches out too much without things to do and work on (since I don’t usually work during this period or only do some half days at camp for a few weeks). Jan/Feb is always the craziest time for me since part of my role is filling in as a sub as needed and it is needed as that is when all the crud is flying around and there are never enough subs to cover it all. I really think that is my best time for rest when it comes to personal projects/side hustles, because I’m just too shattered from the day.

If you ever wonder why parents of young kids are highly strung and can't remember anything, this is why. We don't have the luxury to follow our own seasonality and getting decent sleep is unachievable. We therefore become burnt out and frankly, crazy....

I haven't been in school in decades but I maintain the actual new year is the end of August, when school begins. Even if you don't have kids, so many other industries are affected by the usual school schedule. January 1 is just wannabe new year; it happens in the middle of the real cycle of society.

For monthly cycles, can use the 4 phases of the menstrual cycle (follicular, ovulation, luteul and menstruation) or the moon phases (new, waxing, full, waning) to figure out best energy times for doing vs. resting.

    • @amiesce
      @amiesce День назад

Tracking my cycle (like actually paying attention to my moods and energy levels, beyond just knowing the dates I should start switching out my underwear) was such a major gamechanger for me. My cycle also just so happens to line up with the beginning of the month being my highest energy and end of month being lowest energy, so it really works out for planning at the start vs reflecting at the end!

My husband used a paper calendar when we met because there was no internet yet. For our entire marriage, his calendar was THE LAW when we made plans or appointments. Sadly, when he died 6 years ago, I was so used to his calendar that I had no routine. It took me most of the first year to make a routine for myself. I had to figure out how to plan. Now, I put my appointments on my phone and then add them to my planner as soon as I can.

  • @karenrich9092

I can't imagine having more than one planner. I've been making my own planner using a variety of RUclips channels for guides. My health has been a problem lately, which means having to replan when I'm "back on the wagon." I use a vertical weekly view and divide it into 6 blocks for computer work, memory writing, managing and organizing my home, and my faith and fitness areas. As a young wife and mother, I followed the Slob Sisters with their Basic Week Plan and Activity list, which involved putting everything to be done on 3 x 5 cards and rotating them through a file box. This kept my house clean and allowed time for my family and for me. Now, this is transferred to my planner, which is a little more portable.

Personally I would treat the work block as being at work, inclusive of the meetings, interruptions etc if you're at work, you are working. So I ignore that till I get to the office ☺️ I've pretty much ditched TV, putting my phone down is my next step. Although the euros over here is such a temptation and is interfering with my bedtime My opinion is that I'm so engrained with what society says is normal that putting myself 1st seems unnatural, I need to buck the trend and get comfortable saying 'nah, I went to bed' when asked did I watch the football or something else Ive set my phone to 'Do not disturb' between 8pm and 4am, generally my wake up time. Evening exercise, depending on how close to bedtime, will affect when you can get to sleep too. Also the cold shower will also affect getting to sleep I have my cold shower 1st thing regardless of when I exercise Hope some of that helps, there will be bits you need to grow in to so keep plugging away and it'll become easier esp the cold shower I can now do 3, 4, 5 minutes with worries 😊

I tried to cousin for two years (my first Hobonichi in 2021 and this year) and I like it very much but I agree with you the smaller planters feel a lot more natural. I have been using a weeks now for a few weeks and I really like it. This is my first time in a weeks and I'm really hoping it will work even though it's much smaller, but even if it doesn't work out, I think I'm gonna get in A6 next year instead of a cousin, but hopefully the weeks will be large enough and I'll order that for next year instead.

The key to making quarterly planning work for me is limiting my main projects to three and only scheduling those. Those are the "big rocks," everything else goes where it fits. All of them have vague but defined deliverables. So for editing a book, I'll give each sequence 2 weeks. The details of what I do weekly I'll plan the week before. I work in 30-minute Pomodoros and keep track of those. Over time, I know how long I'll work on a main task each week, which helps future planning. But I'll leave days open for planning that day; I only know the week's goal in advance, and that goal's based on the quarter goal. This has worked for about 2 years now.

I believe that every RUclips routine can be modified to suit your lifestyle. Somebody below even says that the 90 minutes of focused work doesn’t have to be all in one sitting. I mean, You can accumulate like half an hour there and another half an hour somewhere else and another half an hour somewhere else for example.. Also, I think that his lifestyle can probably work if you’re somebody who wakes up early like at 5 AM. If you wake up just before it’s time to wake your kids up and do their whole morning routine with them, then you’re screwed. If you wake up just before it’s time to get ready for work, you’re screwed. A lot of people just go to bed early and then wake up early so that they could have time for self-care, or to do a few extra chores early. So, while that would take time to get used to, it can be done that way.

Only now have I really gotten to planning. I just use the monthly planner since Daily planning is just too specific. I just need to know whats due when. I don't care to know what hour I'm doing it nor the specifics of it. But now I don't know what to do with the pre-printed daily planner sections. I don't need a to-do list since I just use a sticky note on the monthly planner spread. I know this video was 11 months ago, but I need ideas.

Just wanted to thank you because this video really, really helped me with my overwhelmed state! Since I started a daily schedule, I have felt more in control of my to-do lists and have actually been more productive (and calm)! I have been able to prioritize tasks more effectively, and be more realistic about what I can accomplish during certain slots in my day, because I was able to see the amount of time I had available. It really was the missing piece in my system!!

Most of the workers are not productive anywhere between 13 to 25 hours a workweek. The most important question is: are you managing to get your important things done in the productive time remaining for you? If not, then it might be the productivity issue...

  • @corylcreates

My problem is the opposite of "I am so busy and don't think I have time for stuff." I'm childfree, don't have local friends, set my schedule at work (flexible remote gig), and generally don't have many responsibilities to other people. I have all the time in the world to do what I want with my day, which seems like it should solve the problem of "I don't have time for the things I want to do," right? Nah. 😅 It's still surprisingly difficult to do the things that I want to do, but I know it's a mindset issue. Therapy is helping a lot with it. Something I've tried doing with my bullet journal is making a "needs-based" daily spread instead of grouping all the things I want to do into one to-do list. So I'll write a header with a need like "create" or "move" and write down the task that fulfills that. It has helped, but with any change to our lives, it's taking a bit of time/learning for me to commit to the things that I want and need to do for myself.

However, half of this video is an ad for Akiflow, who has no iOS, MacOS, iPadOS integration. Though, you can use a calendar of your choosing. Tic Tic also has task and calendar integrations. I will just stick with my cousin and apple calendar. I refuse to give private information to google, and I am in the process of de-googling my life.

I once heard someone say that writing down everything and getting it out of your head onto paper means there's nothing in your brain, which allows you to use your brain for creativity, not remembering. Of course I still remember things, but I don't have to do so. My only problem with planning is when I plan ahead, I usually get seriously ill, which prevents following those plans. When I menu plan, the food in the frig ends up spoiling unless my daughter takes the food with her. I know we lived by my husband's calender for 32 years and it really worked. Somehow though, my plans fall apart; maybe because it's just me trying to move the mountain. Thank you for your videos and your advice.
